Salento (UNISALENTO-DFM)
The main outcome of WP6 will be the establishment of the Laboratory for Superconductivity and Magnetism (LSM) in Lecce as IRIS research infrastructure node in Lecce (POLO SALENTO) and allow UniSalento to upgrade the Italian participation to the ESFRI EMFL from regional node within the Isabel-EMFL network to the status of ordinary member of EMFL. This will bring Italy to play a major role in the EMFL infrastructure. In this respect, it is worth noting as UniSalento will represent (within EMFL) a national network of laboratories from universities and research centers active on magnetism and superconductivity and related to the AIMagn (Associazione Italiana di Magnetismo) which is going to take the form of a Joint Research Unit supporting Italian user access programme to foster physics studies on magnetism and superconductivity.
This achievement will be possible thanks to the planned improvements in terms of infrastructure and equipment in Lecce. In particular the installation of:
- a close-cycle SQUID magnetometer equipped for VSM and AC susceptibility measurements in various operative conditions and under external stimuli
- a split pair cryogen-free magnet system for combined magneto-optical and FMR measurements
- a close-cycle superconducting magnet for physical properties measurements
- a scanning probe microscope for material characterization and laboratory equipment
As a result, the Innovative distributed R.I. POLO SALENTO will have the opportunity to become a reference facility at international level for research on applied superconductivity and magnetism with a relevant and under some aspects unique set of state of the art equipment which will complement the already existing laboratories and provide open and transnational access within the successful dual access procedure scheme already established within the EMFL-Isabel European Research Infrastructure.
