IRIS and Engineering

The main outcome of the IRIS project will be an infrastructure of large impact on the European scene, capable of attracting scientists and engineers from all over Europe and beyond, offering a unique set of instruments and competence to study a problem in a multidisciplinary way: from tiny spin magnetism effects, to large current and electrical engineering issues, from conceptual quantum mechanical  experiments to construction of new magnet topology by means of winding machine assisted by intelligent software. But equally important will be the possibility for enterprises to test innovative ideas without even coming to the labs. Remotely, upon registration on the portal and approval by a suitable body, a  small enterprise, a start-up having an idea in applied superconductivity can ask to study and manufacture pieces, following from remote its construction through the most recent additive manufacturing techniques, then observing technicians while assembling the devices or cryo-testing them to characterize the object in operative conditions: all by remote via web interface, cameras, robotics and on-line share of the results, fully respecting the IP discipline that we will develop.
